PLEASE NOTE: OUR APPLICATION PROCESS HAS CHANGED. PLEASE READ THIS ENTIRE PAGE FOR THE NEW INFORMATION. Updated 9-03-09. Thank you for your inquiry into the Macomb County Sheriff's Explorer Post. Getting involved with our post is actually pretty simple. We have outlined some of the information below: PLEASE NOTE that Explorer Post 2565 is for Students ages 14 - 20 living full time in MACOMB COUNTY ONLY who have had NO NEGATIVE CONTACTS WITH POLICE. If you are not a resident of Macomb County, please contact your local police/sheriff's department about Explorer Posts near you. Meetings are conducted at the Macomb County Sheriff's Office in Mt. Clemens, MI. Walk into the WEST Entrance, turn left and follow signs to the Training Room. The Sheriff's Office is located at 43565 Elizabeth Road Mt. Clemens, MI 48043. 1) Your first step is to download our application by clicking here. You may fill out the application online and then print it out, or you can print it and fill it out by hand. After you fill it out you can attend any regular meeting and turn your application in along with a NON-refundable $20.00 application fee. 2) At your first meeting you will receive a handbook about our post. This handbook contains important information about our program including our rules, regulations, and code of conduct that each and every explorer will follow. You will need to read and sign the handbook. You will also receive a 6 week probationary form. The probationary form is something you will need to have with you for the next 6 meetings that you attend. 3) You will then need to see a Command Officer and sign up for an Interview Day. You will still be able to attend meetings while waiting for your interview, but you will not be considered an explorer until you have your interview and are accepted into our program. During the interview you will asked a series of questions to determine whether or not you will be accepted into the program. Your interview will last only around 5-10 minutets. After all applicants have been evaluated, you will be contacted by the number listed on your application on whether or not you have been accepted into the program. 4) After you complete the 6 weeks, you will be issued a Class B Uniform Shirt. This is a T-Shirt with the Sheriff Star on the front and the words "Macomb County SHERIFF Explorer" on the back. Please check the uniforms by clicking here for more information. Then you would need to purchase on your own: A) Combat Style Boots (Black in Color) Generally $25 and up B) Basket weave Style Belt (Black in Color) Generally $15 and up C) BDU Pants (Black in Color) Generally $35 and up All the above mentioned items can generally be obtained from uniform/army surplus stores such as; Joe's Army Navy, Excellent Police Equipment, Douglas the Tailor, or PoliceSpecial.com . If you are unable to find or afford ANY of these items, see one of the ADULTS involved in the program for assistance. 5) Once the 6 week probationary form is completed and the uniform has been purchased, we will then inspect the items to make sure they are correct. This way if something IS wrong, you will still be able to return it and will not have wasted your money. That is pretty much the basics of joining. All of this is going to be re-explained at your first meeting. Our post is a fun and positive environment for kids to learn in. About one time a month we schedule a fun event that the entire post is invited to attend. Some examples are laser tag, toboggan runs, whirly ball, wally ball, and family picnics. If you like what you have read, and wish to join our program, please feel free to attend our next regular meeting and more information will be provided. To speed this process up, please feel free to fill out our application online by clicking here. Once opened, you can fill the form out online and print it, or if you wish to fill it out by hand you may print it out and do it that way. Remember once it is printed to have you and your parent/guardian sign and date it. Note: Adobe Acrobat Reader is needed to view the application, if you need to download it click here. Our Explorer Hand Book can be viewed by clicking here. *Note that this is in "normal" format. An actual handbook will be given to you at your first meeting.
